Why Exam-Focused Tutoring

The students who win at exams aren't always the ones who know the most

They're the ones who know how the exam works — how marks are allocated, what the command words demand, how to manage time, and where the easy method marks hide. These are learnable skills, and they're what one-to-one coaching delivers fastest.

We pair deep subject teaching with relentless past-paper practice, so your child walks into the exam hall calm, prepared and knowing exactly what to expect.

  • Real past papers

Every paper back to first assessment, marked against the official scheme.

  • Method marks

Capturing the marks available even when the final answer is wrong.

  • Time management

Pacing strategy so no question is left unanswered for lack of time.

  • Command words

Knowing precisely what 'evaluate', 'justify' and 'explain' require.

  • Revision planning

A written, prioritised plan — so revision targets the weakest topics first.

  • Exam-hall confidence

Familiarity breeds calm. Mocks remove the fear of the unknown.

FAQ

GCSE & A-Level Tuition Oxford — FAQs

Which subjects do you offer GCSE and A-Level tuition in?+

Maths (including Further Maths) and the Sciences — Biology, Chemistry and Physics, both Combined and Triple/separate. I cover GCSE 9–1 and full A-Level specifications.

Which exam boards do you cover?+

All major UK boards — Edexcel, AQA and OCR (including OCR MEI for Maths and OCR Gateway for Sciences). Every lesson follows your child's exact specification and mark scheme.

When should we start GCSE exam preparation?+

Ideally from the start of Year 10 to build strong foundations, but Year 11 is the most common starting point. For a meaningful grade improvement, two terms of weekly lessons is the realistic minimum.

Can you help with last-minute A-Level revision?+

Yes — intensive blocks of 2-hour sessions are available over the Easter and May half-term periods for focused, high-impact revision before the summer exams.

How do you help students improve their grade?+

We work from real past papers, mark them together against the official mark scheme, and build a topic-by-topic plan that targets the specific marks needed to reach the next grade boundary. Exam technique often adds a full grade on its own.

Do you provide mock exams?+

Yes — regular timed mocks under exam conditions, marked against the real mark scheme, with a breakdown of where marks were gained and lost so revision stays focused.

How much can a grade realistically improve?+

It depends on the starting point and effort, but a one-to-two grade improvement (e.g. Grade 4 to 6/7 at GCSE) over one to two terms of consistent lessons and homework is very common.

Do you offer GCSE and A-Level tuition across Oxford?+

Yes — home tuition across Oxford and surrounding areas including Summertown, Headington, Cowley, Kidlington, Bicester, Didcot, Witney and Abingdon.
